"Our teachers thought your concert was very age-appropriate with lots of tuneful songs. The kids
were interested from the beginning, and the songs led to discussions in class and science. Our
older students were eager and enthusiastic during the performance, and all three of you had great
presence and charisma. You worked the crowd very effectively, and the show was instructive,
respectful and, most of all, fun".

Moses Brown School, Providence, RI
"The children loved the performance of The Oceans Are Talking that you presented for
our lower school children. Your music was wonderful and the message so meaningful!
You did a fabulous job of entertaining, educating, and involving the children in
the performance - again, in a very meaningful and controlled manner! Thank you!!"

"Sam was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. Months before the concert, he sent download cards of the music which allowed all our students (and their families) and staff to download the music that would be performed. This allowed the audience to be familiar with the environmental messages in the music well before the concert. He communicated very well as to his technical needs, and he worked well with our tech person at school. During the concert, he engaged students in singing along and also involved them through question and answer interactions. Our students responded well, were very involved and enjoyed the concert immensely".

Blake Rowe: Fieldston Lower School Music Teacher

"Thank you so much for a terrific concert last week! It was a great idea to give the students your CD in advance of the concert; they clearly were familiar with the songs and it made their appreciation of your music that much easier. Your ability to keep them engaged even while discussing the different issues facing our oceans was admirable. It's a perfect marriage of message and medium; each song raised awareness about the particular issue, but was also fun, entertaining and extremely "catchy". Not an easy feat! One of my students put it well. She said, "The concert was great. I noticed the music seemed like it was meant for children, but the messages were about real problems."

Josh Hahn, Director of Environmental Initiatives, Hotchkiss School, Lakeville, CT

“Sam and his band brought energy and fun to otherwise complicated and troubling problems. Everyone who left the show had big smiles on their faces, but also some new understanding about the challenging, real-time, environmental issues that will shape so much of our children's futures.”

Nancy Wasserman, Head of Wade Thomas School, San Anselmo, CA

“Thank you all for a fabulous, spirited concert! I know that the adults enjoyed it as much as the kids!”

Peter Philip, Tower School Headmaster, Marblehead, MA

“Oceans Are Talking was a hit in every respect here. The place is still buzzing. The band was even better live than they were on the CD! It was also a great boost for the morale of the school generally -- just a lot of fun for all and a powerfully important message.”

Patti Purcell, Head of Bel Aire School, Tiburon, CA

“Thank you and your wonderful team for a very, very special day!

Stephanie Guertin, Director of Activities at Greenwich Country Day Lower School, Greenwich, CT

“Not only did Sam sing songs that taught our children about the many problems facing our world’s oceans, but he spoke at an age appropriate level with children about the issues and gave them concrete actions they can take to make a difference. It is clear that Sam knows how to work with children of all ages, but our teachers and parents loved the concert as well. Providing the CD’s before the concert built up the excitement and allowed the children to gain even more from the experience”.

Steve Hancock, Head of Princeton Day School, Princeton, NJ
“Our students at PDS came to the "Oceans are Talking" show with a great deal of excitement. We spent some time as a school becoming familiar with the tunes on the CD, and the kids came to the theater ready to sing and participate. The message was great and highly appropriate for our students.”
Patricia Hochstetter, Head of Indian Mountain School, Lakeville, CT
"Oceans Are Talking is a wonderful collection of songs that not only teach kids about current issues involving Ocean conservation and stewardship, but are also catchy, creative, and entertaining. As a musician and educator myself, I found Sam's music and live presentation totally engaging and enlightening."
Emily Schechter, Trevor School Assembly Coordinator, New York, NY
“The Faculty and Students truly enjoyed the Oceans Are Talking Assembly. The students being able to fully participate and sing along made it all the more enjoyable and interactive. Making sure they were listening to the CD ahead of time helped make the Assembly relevant and successful. Accessibility to the level that the students are on is key, and your show achieved that. It was a fabulous show. Thanks so much!”

"Despite their sometimes worrisome subject matter, Lardner’s songs are very singable and, in some cases, highly danceable. He blends folk, pop, Latin and funk into a style appealing to both kids and adults".

“The oceans finally have a voice, and it’s Sam Lardner. It’ rare to hear children’s music that I can actually sing in the shower. Now, I find myself showering more often.”
